Theatre Classes

Classes begin the week of September 11th!

Our seasonal theatre classes are offered to ages 4 to Adult on a seasonal basis, beginning in the month of September and lasting through May. All our classes are held at the STP Building in Garner, NC.

No child has to audition to be part of STP (see more about auditions below), although they will audition in class for their part in a class production. With God as our central focus, we begin with prayer and a devotional that correlates a Biblical concept to a theatre concept that we may be working on. Each class is one hour and thirty minutes, although the 13 and up classes often adjust to longer classes after December (6pm-9pm or 10pm instead of 6pm-7:30pm).

For most classes, we start work immediately on the upcoming production. This includes stage direction, character building, projection, choreography, and of course, singing, as all of our productions are musicals. Keep in mind that we take into consideration the ages of the children and will work with them accordingly. Dates of the productions will vary and you will be made aware of these dates well in advance.

Fall 2017 - Spring 2018 class registration is now open to the public . Please be advised that limited space is available in each class. See below for information on the different classes and payments.

  • Mail forms to: P. O. Box 2089, Garner, NC  27529
  • OR - drop off forms in our office/building at: 1250 Aversboro Rd., Garner, NC
  • Make checks payable to "Spiritual Twist Productions"

We would ask you to pray and think about the following before registering:
1. Only register if you are SURE God is calling your child to be in STP this year.  Don't just register just to save a space.  One year we had more than 20 students drop out as September approached.  Please understand that this adversely affects our choice of productions and budget, and takes away spaces from those whom God might be calling to STP.
2. The STP registration fee and any monies paid to STP are non-refundable once they are submitted. If you pay a registration fee, August fees, and September tuition by August, but then drop out the beginning of September, all monies are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Major Musicals

There eight major musicals performed each Spring season, each class performing a full-length musical drama. See the Upcoming Shows page for a list of this year's musicals. Contact us for more information.

Special Events

Each Fall we have our Staff Show fundraiser (a cast made-up exclusively of STP staff and TTAs). We also hold auditions for our annual Christmas production, which is open to current students and their families (adults included!). Contact us for more information.

Auditions within each class are normally held in September (look for dates in the welcome email, or contact us for more info). They are primarily for training purposes and for casting the upcoming productions. While the younger classes audition individually before directors, students in the older classes are expected to audition in front of the entire class on the given audition date.

Each student will need to prepare a short monologue and at least one verse choruse of a song - PLEASE NOTE that both should be memorized, and the entire time allowed for the audition is as follows:

13 and up classes - 3 Minute Auditions

8-12 and Homeschool classes - 5 Minute Auditions

It is recommended that students give themselves plenty of time to chose audition pieces, memorize, rehearse, and finetune - AT LEAST two weeks before the audition date! The longer you have to rehearse the better.

Directors will not make you sing if the very thought of it makes you ill, BUT, please remember this will eliminate you for consideration for quite a few roles.

Accompaniment for vocals, either with an accompaniment track (we have CD and iPod plug-in capabilities) or having somene accompany you on the piano, is highly recommended, as even some of our most advanced students can lose pitch without accompaniment!

Suggestions for audition pieces:

Monologue - something from a film, play, or novel. Ex. A Disney film like "Aladdin" or "Tarzan", Tom Sawyer or Anne of Green Gables, Eliza Doolittle from "My Fair Lady", etc.

Songs - preferably something theatrical, although popular songs and hymns/worship songs are permitted. Ex. Something from Disney, like "Beauty and the Beast", "Newsies", or "Frozen"; or something from Broadway, like "Wicked", "The Sound of Music", or "Annie".

REMEMBER - the main thing casting directors look for, besides strong vocal and acting skills, are:

  • Projection (speaking loudly)
  • Stage presence (energy and confidence)
  • Development of character (are you yourself, or your character on stage?)
  • Passion! (be willing to take risks!)
  • Also - being able to follow directions, a righteous attitude, and a willing and servant's heart!!!

"Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed." ~ Proverbs 16:3
